Flamingo

Summer is slowly coming to a close, but there's still plenty of time to
soak up the sun and enjoy the longest days of the year. One thing I've always
wanted to do that technically could be done any time of year is go to a beach
where you can feed flamingos. Aruba seems to be the hot spot for this, so I
envision it looking something like this...

Bardot

If you follow me on instagram, you saw this illustration come
to life earlier today. She's wearing the ultimate summer-cool
look. A distressed denim skirt, a button-down styled as an off
the shoulder top, a logo belt, and the caged sandals of the season.

What's even better is that each of these pieces can be styled
differently to work for fall. I'd say it's an around win.

I'll take this entire look, please!

Kicking off a new week with a pop of color!

Matching sets have been a huge trend in the past few
seasons and they're not going anywhere. For fall, pick
up a pair of wide leg trousers with a matching swing top.
Can you imagine how sleek this would be in a camel color?
Dying at the thought of it.

Birds

I've recently been drawn to embroidery on both dresses and flirty little
tops. I love the feminine touch, added embellishments, etc. It's such a
nice break from my basic black & white wardrobe. We'll see if this one
sticks around for fall, but for now, birds of a feather flock together, right?
This illustration was inspired by a dress a few years back, but it came to
mind when I found this dress the other day. Hello, it's perfect for a summer
wedding, a bridesmaid's luncheon or a baby shower (throw on some cute flat
sandals). So out of character for me, but I'm completely obsessed with it.

What to Wear... This Fall

While I feel like we just got into the heat of summer, fall is
just around the corner (yay!). I find it much easier to get dressed
in the fall when you can throw on a sweater, jeans, and your favorite
boots and call it a day. While we're still a few months out, the Nordstrom
Anniversary Sale is the perfect opportunity to start your fall shopping now!

So what are we looking for in terms of fall trends? Bell sleeves are
still going to be here. Long duster cardigans are becoming a major
go-to for me (layered over a basic white tee, done and done). Cool
details like lace-up sleeves and tasteful cut-outs are the perfect way to
add some interest to an otherwise basic sweater. Off the shoulder is still
going to be around, though I have to admit, I'm growing weary of the trend.
Oh, but the sweater/sweatshirt she's wearing below is $25. You might need
this one. It's a great weekend wear option (linked below).

I've narrowed it down to a handful of sweaters you have to see (for non-
Nordstrom card holders, start loading up your cart now so you can hit "checkout"
when the sale opens to the public Saturday). Grab these items quick before they
sell out!

Kourt

If there's one thing I spend money on, it's accessories. Everything from
watches, sunglasses, bags, etc. etc... that's where my money goes. My wardrobe
is pretty basic (black, white and grey is my color palette), and I mix it up with fun
accessories (mostly in the same colors). I never leave home without a good pair of
shades, so Quay has become my new best friend. (Consider this an unsponsored post;
I'm just a huge advocate for the brand). They are highly durable, affordable, and on-
trend. With the attainable price point, you can go for something on the trendy side
without breaking the bank. My summer go-to has been the mirrored aviators. While
I have an extensive collection of Ray-Bans in the same shape, the Quay version is
lighter on my face which makes for better long-term wear.

While I opted for the silver, this shape is available in multiple colors. Shop
my favorites by Quay (pronounced "key") below:

Beauty Cleaning Mat

Did you know that early access to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale
has started? Of course you did... everybody is talking (and posting)
about it. While I cut my Nordies card to shreds opting for travel
points from Southwest, I can still preview the sale and get my cart
ready for July 21st when the sale opens to non-cardholders.

One of the items I found on the sale is an absolute must. I purchased a
Sigma cleaning mat last year and have since become obsessed. Keeping my
makeup brushes clean is something I often overlook, but this mat is the easiest
way to keep them clean and to keep your skin happy. The NSale exclusive
includes a sample of the cleaning shampoo, so just add it to your cart
and call it a day. You (and your skin) can thank me later!

There are some weeks where Friday can't come soon enough and
this was one of those weeks! Looking forward to a weekend of
resting up, hopefully soaking in some sun, and preparing for a
busy week next week!

Maje(or) Sale

It's not everyday that a dress takes social media by storm.
This dress did, however. I saw it on a handful of bloggers
and immediately knew I had to illustrate it in the BFP voice.

Meet, Elise, who is wearing the dress that made me a smitten
kitten from the second I saw it. The best part? The actual dress is on sale...
you don't want to miss it (also available here)! She's available as both

What to wear... to your bridal shower

We're thrilled to start a new series called What to Wear (Wednesday).
What to wear, for instance, to your 10 year high school reunion? You
want to look good but not like you're trying too hard. What to wear to
a black tie wedding in the middle of summer? We're going to start covering
it all...

Let's start with what to wear to your bridal shower...

There is sure to be more than one, and you most likely want to wear white to
at least one of them, because why not? You are the bride... this is all about you.
The good news is in the summer there are a plethora of white dress options at
your fingertips. We're all very familiar with the trends of the season (bell sleeves,
ruffles, layered silks). Choose a dress that is seasonally appropriate and not too
trendy (you don't want to look back at the pictures and have a major eye roll
moment). We picked four white dresses below that are worth considering.
They're all classically elegant and are sure to wow.

This is your moment. Own it. Wear white as much as you want. And don't
forget to send your thank-you notes as soon as possible (see our bridal
notecards here, and add a personal touch by adding "Thank You from the
Future Mrs." to the top under personalization).

Courtney + Rett

An "I Do BBQ" is an easy and festive couple's shower theme,
one that you can dress up or down. On the casual side, think
red & white linens, backyard games like giant Jenga and corn hole,
mason jars, etc. For a dressier approach, use southern-inspired
displays like mason jars, but fill them with a more formal bouquet
as opposed to sunflowers. Whichever approach you take, it's sure to
be a hit! Be sure to pick up these themed wet wipes for a more
personal touch (if ribs are served, consider them a must).

I was thrilled to create a custom invitation for a dear friend for
her "I Do BBQ".

Wedding Planner

Let's talk about weddings, shall we?

You've already popped the question to your maids (see
great ideas of how to do so here and here).... so, what now?

A great place to start is to pick up the BFP Wedding Planner
(available here). Not only is it full of great ideas to keep you on
track (and on budget), but it's loaded with festive illustrations by
yours truly to make the planning even more inspired!

Happy (almost) wife, happy life... or so the saying goes. To keep
your head straight throughout the week, use one of my favorite tools,
the Weekly To-Do List to make your list and check it twice. There's nothing
more gratifying than crossing something off my to-do list, so I hope this is
a life saver for all the brides-to-be!

Once you're in full wedding mode, the gifts are sure to start rolling in.
Keep track of every happy you receive by recording them in the Gift Log
It takes the guess work out of thank-you notes... did I already write that one?
Who is this platter that we'll never use from? Stay on top of all of it with the
Gift Log (you can thank me later).

Lastly, don't wait until the last minute to start drafting your vows...
use these pocket-sized Vow Books to keep notes as you think of them.

Happy wedding planning!

Crew

Happy 4th! Enjoy the day off and spending time
with friends and family picnicking, grilling, beaching, etc...

July 3, 2017

USA

With the 4th falling on a Tuesday this year, it feels like an
extended long weekend. I hope you're enjoying a day off
as you gear up for some fireworks tomorrow after a weekend
of picnics, lake or beach time, but most importantly, time
spent with friends and family!
