Choosing the Perfect Party Dress

Stepping into a glamourous party dress can instantly make us feel like a princess. With so many great party dresses available in every style and cut, there’s never been a better time to get that special feeling that only a new dress can bring.

While there’s certainly a dress style to suit every occasion, it’s worth taking some time to decide carefully on what sort of piece you want. To help you make the right choice, here is a brief guide to finding the perfect party dress:

Formal Vs Informal

Weddings and graduations tend to suit lengthier styles, including maxi dresses and ball gowns. Cocktail parties are more suited to shorter, fun styles in the shape of glitter-encrusted bodycon numbers and statement peplum looks.

The accessories chosen play an important part in tying a look together; sometimes they can make or break a style. For more formal occasions it’s often a good idea to keep the accessories simple, especially if you intend to let the dress do the talking.

Some of today’s styles, such as the many Lipsy dresses available at Very.co.uk, boast designs that require little tailoring. From beaded jersey styles to diamante-embellished maxi dresses, little jewellery is required.

Colour Trends

Monochrome styles and striped bodycon designs are proving to be extremely popular this season. Some of the more recent striped numbers create the illusion of a slimmer silhouette, whilst the peplum style creates curves.

Body Shape

The body shape plays an important in choosing a new dress; certain figures will suit certain styles. It is therefore important to do a little research prior to buying a fit you have never tried before.

Before investing in a new style, you should begin by establishing your body type. For example: are you pear shaped, do you possess an hourglass figure or alternatively, a boyish, straight up and down look?

Once you have established this, you can begin your shopping mission. Those with curves should avoid prints and patterns, whilst extremely petite figures should stick solely to these styles. Belts can work wonders on the waistline and will clinch the waist into a flattering silhouette.

Lengthier styles can generally be worn by all; however if you are a little on the petite side, team them with killer heels. Accessories should match both the hues and fabrics of the outfit in question to tie the entire look together.
